Billy D. Wince Sr.'s Obituary
Billy Domonic Wince, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, faithful servant of God, and proud United States Air Force veteran, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on December 15, 2025. His life reflected steadfast service, deep faith, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Billy was born on December 27, 1941, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Leona Maria Burnett and Tom Wince, Jr. He was introduced to faith at an early age and attended St. Mary's Catholic School and was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church. His family later relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, where he continued his education at St. John's Catholic School, Washington Irving Junior High School, and North High School, graduating in the spring of 1961.
On February 2, 1962, Billy enlisted in the United States Air Force, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned over more than twenty-one years. He served honorably during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base. Throughout his service, Billy traveled extensively and spent more than fourteen years in the Far East, including assignments in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Okinawa, Vietnam, Guam, Taiwan, and China. He also participated in significant historical events, including the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1963 and the USS Pueblo Crisis in 1968.
Technical Sergeant Wince received numerous military honors, including the National Defense Service Ribbon with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Vietnam Service Medal with Five Battle Stars, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He retired from active duty on June 30, 1983, and continued his service at Keesler Air Force Base and Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi, until April 1991.
In April 1991, Billy began working at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in the cytology department. He later served veterans at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, assisting with medical care and benefits claims, a role he fulfilled with compassion and commitment until June 2006.
Billy met his beloved wife, Beverly, in January of 1990. They married on July 7, 1990, beginning a devoted partnership rooted in faith and service. Through Beverly, Billy was introduced to the Baptist faith and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church at the age of 55. On June 5, 2005, he was ordained as a deacon. A faithful member of New Hope, Billy served as a co-facilitator for Wednesday night Bible studies, participated in prayer meetings, and assisted in outreach ministries, and assisted in outreach ministries, including visiting the sick and shut-in alongside Reverend Wendell Paris. He also enjoyed his Sundey school class. Billy and Beverly made their home in Ridgeland, Mississippi, and enjoyed traveling together for leisure and mission work.
Billy will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and genuine concern for others. He had a remarkable ability to bring people together and make everyone feel welcomed and valued. His kindness, humility, and willingness to serve left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He lived with purpose, loved deeply, and served faithfully.
Billy Domonic Wince, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Beverly Wince; his siblings, Terry Wince, Marino Gray, Terrell Wince, Toya Wince Ford, Thomasine Wince Washington, Rene Wince, Riletta Wince Williams, and Tonya Wince; his children, William Worthington (Shelley), Hitomi Maria Wince, Billy Domonic Wince, Jr., Tom Wince IV, Takafumi Roberto Wince (Laura), and James Edward Tidwell, Jr. (Harriet); his grandchildren, Miles Worthington, Jules Worthington, Ruby Worthington, Cole Worthington, Rachel L. Wince, Domonic Wince, Phillip Jay Wince, Tyler Wince, Reagan I. Wince, and Teirrah Tidwell; and his goddaughters, Victoria Carpenter, Benadita Ochoa (Gilbert), Brianna Ochoa, and Jade Wynn (Timothy).
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rosie Wince and Tom Wince, Sr.; his parents, Leona Maria Burnett and Tom Wince, Jr.; and his siblings, Tom Wince III, Tony Wince, Walter Wince, Wardell Wince, Bobo Wince, and Wanda Wince Brown.
