Cora Bell Moore Coleman's Obituary
On September 25, 1950, in the small town of Madison, Mississippi, a beautiful and precious baby girl was born to the loving union of Hollis Moore, Sr. and Catherine Moore. Cora was the only child who survived their union, yet she would grow to share loving bonds with many extended siblings and family members throughout her life. From an early age, she possessed a special love and admiration for people and a warmth that naturally drew others to her. On February 8, 2026, the Lord peacefully called her from labor to reward.
Cora received her education through the Jackson Public School System. She graduated from Brinkley High School in 1969 and further pursued her education at Hinds Community College. She accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully remained a member until her health declined. She served as a devoted member of the church choir, lifting her voice in praise and worship.
In a time when there were few African American business owners in Jackson, Cora courageously pursued her passion and was blessed to establish her own business, Lamode Stylette Center. For over 35 years, she faithfully served her community as a licensed cosmetologist. Her salon was more than a place of beauty-it was a place of fellowship, encouragement, and care.
Cora also had a deep love for decorating. She attended the Career Development Center, where she earned her certification in interior design. She took great pride in beautifying spaces for others, bringing warmth and elegance wherever her creative touch was present.
Cora was a true creative at heart and a genuine lover of people. She found joy in making beautiful floral arrangements and restoring furniture, always seeing potential where others saw something worn. At any given time, you might find her changing the color of her walls, refinishing a table, or reimagining a space until it felt just right. Her home reflected her vibrant spirit and welcoming nature.
More than her creativity, Cora had an open heart. She was always willing to assist in any way she could. She welcomed others into her home for temporary stays, offered comfort without hesitation, and rarely declined an invitation. If someone invited her, she believed it was important to show up. She valued presence. She valued people.
Cora was married in 1971 and was blessed with two beautiful children, Jerzell "Keisha" and Dangelo, whom she loved dearly and poured her heart into raising. Though not born to her, Datondria "Sha" Johnson was placed in Cora's arms at six months old, and from that day forward she was loved, raised, and cherished as her own daughter.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis Moore, Sr. and Catherine Moore; her stepfather Sylvester Arnold, siblings Diane Moore Cole, Joe Cage, Johnny Jackson, William McKinley Moore, Lillian Moore, Keith Moore, Hollis Moore, Jr., Johnny Earl, Sallistine Moore, and Sasserine Moore.
Left to honor and cherish her precious memory are her loving children: Jerzell Pierre-Louis (Lloyd) of Columbus, Ohio; Dangelo "Dan" Coleman (Marissa) of Delaware, Ohio; and Datondria "Sha" Johnson of Jackson, Mississippi. Her cherished grandchildren: Ronald Thompson, Solomon Pierre-Louis, Leah Pierre-Louis, Olivia Pierre-Louis, Alanis Coleman, Jada Coleman, and Gabrielle Coleman. Her beloved great-grandchildren: Amóura Thompson, AJhaunèe Thompson and Samone Fulks. She shared a loving bond with her siblings: Larry Arnold, Sr. (Faye), Sylvester Arnold, Jr. (Shirley), G.W.
