Curtis Hearn's Obituary
Curtis Hearn of Pocahontas, Mississippi and Elmwood Park/St. Louis, Missouri peacefully departed this life on August 5, 2025, at the age of 89 at Baptist Hospital.
Born on July 15, 1936, in Pocahontas, Mississippi, Curtis was the son of Leotis Hearn Sr. and Rosie Bell Blackwell Hearn. He was the seventh of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rainey Bell, and brothers Handy, Jessie, Leotis Jr., John, Joe, and Henry.
Curtis accepted Christ at a young age at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pocahontas, MS. He attended Utica High School in Utica, MS, and graduated from Sumner High School, Clinton, MS in 1957, where he faithfully served as Chaplain and drove the school bus for fellow students.
In 1957, Curtis relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where he became an active member in the ministry at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church. While attending there he sang in Choir #3 and served as a trustee. He later earned an associate degree in Theology from Brooks Bible Institute, and subsequently transferred his membership to First Baptist Church of Elmwood Park, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon. Additionally, he earned an associate degree in Business Administration from St. Louis Community College - Forest Park.
Curtis married Shirley Jane Allen in 1964; they were blessed with a daughter, Vanessa, before Shirley preceded him in death in 1968. In 1972 he married Ruthie Mae Love, and they welcomed a daughter, Shirley; they divorced in 1988. In 1989, he married Catherine Hayes, Who preceded him in death in 2008.
Curtis was employed initially at Chronic Hospital, and devoted 31 years of service to Boeing Company as an IAM Expeditor. A proud union member and diligent provider, he retired from Boeing and returned to his beloved Hearn Road, Pocahontas, Mississippi, in 1998.
At the time of his passing, Curtis was a devoted member and Deacon at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where his journey of faith began.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters: Vanessa Hearn, Pocahontas, MS, and Shirley Terrell (Derrick) of Arlington, TN; his granddaughters Colby Terrell of Memphis, TN and Carmen Terrell of Arlington, TN; and his great-grandson Cameron Norman of Arlington, TN. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
