Lubertha Wilson Neal's Obituary
Lubertha Wilson Neal was born on April 27, 1947, in Madison County, to the late Daisy Wilson Bennett & Johnnie Mason. Also proceeded in death was her outstanding loving bonus father, Johnny Bennett, Sr. She transitioned from earth to her eternal home on Friday, May 8, 2026, at University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Lubertha accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age at St. Matthew M. B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Sylvester Thomas. She remained a faithful and working member until joining with Mt. Calvary M. B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Alexander Kirkwood. Through all of life's joys and trials, she remained steadfast in her faith in God. She willingly shared her gifts within the body of Christ as a Sunday School Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Youth Usher Leader, Mission Member, Woman Ministry, Dining Committee, Deaconess Ministry and Girl Scout Leader.
Lubertha started her education at Walton Elementary School and graduated with the greatest class of Brinkley High School in 1965. On August 14, 1965, she married the love of her life, Ishman Neal. Their love was inseparable. It was very rare to see one without the other. They have been together since 10th grade. To this union, one son was born, Ishmon Keith Neal, III. Her love for her husband, son & daughter-in-love, granddaughter, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces & nephews will endure forever.
Lubertha work career started at Gulf Oil and later was hired at Bell South where she remained and retired after thirty-five (35) years as the name changed to AT&T. With such a great concern for others on her mind, she wanted to assist in helping her co-workers. Therefore, she joined the Union and decided to run for Vice President and won and remained in that office until her death. She would work tireless hours to help save a coworker's job. She also worked as a dedicated voting Precinct Leader, as well as dedicated many hours trying to get people to register to vote and was always a great encourager for young people.
Lubertha was a giver. She was always concerned about her nieces & nephews who may have needed an extra hand and it was important to her to assist them in times of need. Most of the time, she would put others needs before her own. This was her way of showing God's love within her. Not only would she help her family, if you were her friend, she would always be there in your time of need as well. She also enjoyed being involved in the local AARP organization, this was just another way for her to give back to those in need.
Lubertha was preceded in death by her sister, Mary L. Bennett, two brother, Sammie & Leo Mason.
Lubertha leaves to rejoice in her memory and continue her legacy: her husband of 60 years, Ishman Neal; her son, Ishmon Keith (Cynthia) of Wylie, Texas; one granddaughter, La'Keisha (Reginald) Cross, of Wylie, Texas; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Camden, Reginald, Jr. & Y'mani Cross, all of Wylie, Texas; one sister, Evangeline (Puddin) Harvey of Madison, MS; two brothers, Johnny (Patricia) Bennett of Papillion, Nebraska, Johnnie (Genet) Mason of Jackson, MS; two brother-in-laws, Eddie (Carolyn) Neal of Madison, MS; three sister-in-laws, Eva Coleman, Virginia Ann (Larry) Horne, both of Jackson, MS, Odessa Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one Goddaughter, Miya (Joshua) Warfield Bates of Madison, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to whom all had a special place in her heart. We truly grieve her passing, but celebrate the honor of having her in our lives and knowing the profound life she led with such a giving spirit and love for God.
