Robert Edward Anderson's Obituary
Mr. Robert Edward Anderson was born on February 15, 1948, to the late Sam Anderson Sr. and Elder Reverend Verlillian Tyler Anderson in Jackson, Mississippi. He confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. Robert attended Jackson Public Schools. In 1968, he joined the United States Army and faithfully served his country until 1970. In 1983, he graduated from the Hinds Junior College Butchery Program in Utica, Mississippi. During his career as a butcher, he became well-known as "The Mad Butcher." Among family and friends, he was affectionately called Bobby and Bod Ed. Robert had a passion for landscaping and took great pride in the precision of his work. He also loved grilling - his skills produced some of the most flavorful, tender ribs anyone had ever tasted.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 52 years, Rita Louise Brown Anderson. To their union, one daughter was born: LaKesha Marina Anderson Evan (Terrance) of Texas; daughters Janice Annette Singleton of Clinton, Mississippi; and Anita Amodia (Gene) of Gilbert, Arizona and son Douglas Jerome Brown of Jackson, Mississippi.
Robert is survived by two sisters and one brother: William Earl Anderson, Sr. (Helen) of Jackson, Mississippi; Kay Anderson Benbo of Battle Creek, Michigan; and Betty Jean Anderson Watson (Waverly) of Jackson, Mississippi; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Sam Anderson Jr., Bennie Anderson (Barbara), and Thomas Reid Anderson (Sheila).
He also leaves two special brothers-in-law: Enos Alvin Catchings Sr. (Wendi) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Alfred Bruce Brown Sr. (Diane) of Los Angeles, California; a special niece, Peggy Willis (Ernest) of Chicago, Illinois; five special cousins: Joyce Marie Bass of Jackson, Mississippi; Shirley Ann Catchings of Los Angeles, California; Clifford C. Catchings of San Jose, California; Dennis D. Catchings of Los Angeles, California; and Rosie Ann Catchings of Jackson, Mississippi. He also leaves a special son who began as a neighbor but became family: Timotheus Meeks (Angie) of Fort Worth, Texas.
Robert's legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
