Rosie Alice Hobson's Obituary
Our lives are unfinished books which we are writing day-by-day. Alice wrote the final chapter of her life... and softly closed the book.
Miss Rosie Alice Hobson, the fourth child of Elizabeth Hobson and Sam Jackson, Sr., was born November 5, 1947, in Madison County, Mississippi. Alice departed this life on November 6, 2025, at 1:27 p.m. Her walk with God started at a young age. She was baptized at Livingston M. B. Church in Flora, Mississippi, under the leadership of Rev. P. F. Parker. She continued her Christian walk at Livingston under Rev George Vaughn and Rev. Thomas E. Ray, Jr., serving as the church recording secretary and youth director. She also served as the president of the Christian Women's Institute of Madison County for many years.
Alice later changed her membership to New Gethsemane M. B. Church in Jackson, Mississippi, under the leadership of Rev. Thomas E. Ray, Jr., where she remained a very active and faithful member.
Alice began her educational journey in Madison County Public School District at the Madison County Training School. Her other education training was at Rosa Scott High School where she was a high-stepping majorette, cheerleader, member of the dance troop, and a 1968 graduate. After high school, she continued her education, graduating from Jackson State University with a Specialist Degree in Education. As a member of the Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Beta Sorority Inc., she was honored at their Finer Womanhood Observance Day as Best Dressed Woman in 1984.
A solid educational foundation enabled Alice to pursue a productive and distinguished career in education. Her career path included working at Puckett High School as Physical Education Instructor, the Mississippi Department of Education as a traveling educational consultant for 12 years, and SPED Director for the Clinton Public School District (1985-2008). Her passion was to help children that were unable to fully achieve a level of independence without guidance. She officially retired in 2008.
Alice loved going to JSU football games, watching college and NFL games on television, shopping, interior designing, and spending time with her family.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth Hobson and Sam Jackson, Sr.; two brothers, Cecil Hobson Herron and Tommy Hobson; two sisters, Onetta Davenport and Willie Bell Washington; three nieces, Wanda Denise Jackson, Charolette Hobson Gray, and Carolyn Hobson; one nephew, Ray Charles Hobson; and one great nephew, Randy Montrell Ball.
Alice leaves her memories: four sisters, Barbara J. Hobson of Ridgeland, Mississippi, Saundra D. Williams of Jackson, Mississippi, Leola Mae Jackson and Bobbie Jackson of St. Paul, Minnesota; one broth-er, Sylvester (Mildred) Jackson of Gluckstadt, Mississippi; a very special friend and loved one, Chancellor Ervin of Jackson, Mississippi. She will forever be missed by Desmond Jackson (great nephew) whom she loved with everything she had; he was truly her heartbeat; her memory will also be cherished by all her nieces and nephews and their descendants.
