Teresa Harris Jones' Obituary
Mrs. Teresa Harris Jones, 70, of Jackson, Mississippi, entered her eternal rest on November 10, 2025, four years to the very day after her beloved husband, Mr. Robert Jones, Sr., was called home. Though her earthly journey has ended, her love, compassion, and unwavering faith continue to live on through the countless lives she touched.
Born on October 20, 1955, to Jesse Chadwick and Isaac Harris, Teresa was the youngest of twelve children. At a young age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at New Hope Baptist Church on Old Whitfield Mills Road under the leadership of Rev. G. C. Hunt. Her walk with Christ shaped her life, guided her decisions, and anchored her through every season.
On December 16, 1975, she was united in marriage with Robert Jones, Sr., forming a lifelong partnership built on love, steadiness, and family. Their bond was so strong that God, in His perfect timing, called them home on the same day, four years apart, uniting them once again in eternity.
Teresa devoted her life to serving others, particularly children, through her long and dedicated career in food service. She attended Job Corps and worked faithfully with Black and Proud School, St. Peter Christian Academy, New Hope Christian School, the City of Jackson, and the Jackson Public School District. She believed that food was more than nourishment—it was ministry. With every meal she prepared, she poured in love, dignity, and care. Feeding people, especially the young, was her way of nurturing both body and spirit, and she became known for her kindness, her steady hands, and her ability to make anyone feel at home.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Imani (Adrian) Finley, Barbara (Steve) Harris Davis, Jessica (Dwane) Cox, Alice (Joseph) Simmons, and Jasmine (Calvin) Bogan, along with her bonus children Mattie Lou Tarvin, Ernestine Gamage, Charlotte Mitchell, Robert Jones Jr., and Lincoln Jones. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Brianna (Kimber) Camper, Kimani Marshall, Alicia Cox, Andre Cox, Antwon Cox, Calvin Bogan Jr., Isaac Simmons, Finley Bogan, Abigail Simmons, Shavon Davis, Shanette Tarvin, Mickail Tarvin, Terrel, Deunta Butler, DaQuesha Butler, Markee, Billy Fred (BJ, and Jermarvis McGee, and through her great-grandchildren Kaileah, Anthony, Jaiden Woodard, Jade Camper, and Lindon Camper. She also leaves behind her only surviving sibling, Janie Burrell, and is preceded in death by her siblings Lucille Colton, Patricia Jerdine, Francis Harrington, Richard Harris, Jeptha Harris, Jessie Harris, John Henry Harris, Carolyn Brawner, Cecil Harris, and Katherine Mitchell. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Teresa lived a life marked by humility, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her home was a refuge, her words were gentle, and her heart was giving. She poured into her family, her students, her coworkers, and her church community with quiet strength and a servant's spirit. Though her earthly body rests, her legacy lives on in every life she nurtured and every heart she touched.
