Verlena M. Collins' Obituary
Verlena Murphy, born April 2, 1953 to the late Jim and Luebertha Murphy, in Jackson, MS. Verlena comes from a big family of 13 siblings. During Verlena's early life she worked at McCarty Farms then later transitioned to the medical field. A natural born caregiver, she became a caretaker for the elderly. Verlena was a devoted mother to four beautiful children, Trena, Jasper, Elizabeth and Jessie. Unfortunately, Jessie lost his life at a young age. The family was devastated but stayed close. Verlena lived a very full life. She was a very jovial, fun and always honest. As time passed and her children became parents, Verlena took the role of grandmother serious. She was able to help raise several of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was an unknown staple to have Grandma Bug instill her traditional teachings to the kids. Sadly, Verlena was called to her final resting place on March 22, 2026, at the tender age of 72. Verlena will forever live in our hearts and memories.
Verlena found her husband Eddie Clyde Carr in her younger years. Both had children from previous relationships however, they decided to create a blended family. They were always together; you couldn't see one without the other, they were inseparable. They decided to spend the rest of their lives with each another. They were the true meaning of love; they had their ups and downs, but it kept them together for over 45 years. They were a blessing to each other. She couldn't have asked for a better husband.
Verlena leaves behind to cherish her memories: her husband Eddie Clyde Carr, daughters: Trena Magee Franklin, Elizabeth Sanders (Mario), and one son Jasper Collins Ill, all of Jackson, MS. She also leaves behind four sisters, Christine Ward, Betty Harris. Ann Creswell, and Brenda Murphy. Two brothers: Michael Murphy and Donald Murphy, all of Jackson, Ms. Her first set of grandchildren. April Murphy Mack of Jackson, MS. Constance Murphy Terry (Brian) of Florida, Toni Magee (Darius), Curtis Collins, Keishonna Johnson (Sheena), Porsha Collins, Darius Collins, Jasmine Finch (Cordarius), Janice Collins, Jadarius Collins, Jeremy Collins, Jenarrio Sanders, Messiah Sanders all of Jackson, MS, Marquevious Sanders (Alivia) of Georgia, First great-grand children Renisha Murphy. Demorion Murphy, Cadarian Russell, Carmen Murphy and James Mack III. Ladarius Gates Jr, Bryson Brown, Braylon Magee, Landis Ross and Cali Kendrick. Verlena's life was certainly fulfilled to witness the birth of her first great great grandchild, Rylie Eubanks and a host of nieces and nephews.
