Wayne R. Brady Sr.'s Obituary
Wayne Randolph Brady was born on June 2, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to the union of the late Lewis Vermon (L.V.) Brady and Marie Eva Collins. Wayne was the sixth of seven children born to this union; all of Wayne's siblings preceded him in death. He often referred to himself as "the last of the mohicans." His daughter Rolanda LaShaun Brady and great granddaughter Raeanna Nicole Washington, also preceded him in death.
Rev. Brady was a proud product of Chicago's Westside. He accepted Christ Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Stamps.
He attended Manley Elementary School and Carter H. Harrison High School, where he played and enjoyed the game of basketball and was awarded a two-year basketball scholarship to Savannah State College in 1964.
Rev. Brady married his high school sweetheart on September 10, 1966, and was blessed with two beautiful children, Wayne Randolph Jr. and Rolanda LaShaun.
Rev. Brady earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Roosevelt University in 1970. It was in 1974 he began his career in law enforcement with the Illinois State Police Department as an Illinois State Trooper. During his 28-year tenure, he was faced with many challenging situations, but thanks to our Lord and Savior, no serious harm came upon him. He received numerous commendations, letters of appreciation, and he served in many positions. Being chosen to participate on the United States Secret Service team of officers to provide security to the Chicago World Cup USA 1994 was one of the positions he found the most rewarding.
After much prayer and long conversations with then pastor Rev. Dr. J.L. White, Rev. Brady joined his family and became a member of New Zion M.B. Church. It was during those conversations, Rev. White learned how knowledgeable of the Bible he was and told him to continue to study the word to show himself approved unto God and man.
In 1980, Pastor White ordained him a deacon, and his zeal to learn more intensified, and he became active with the Christian Education Department of the Sunday School Publishing Board, NBC, USA, Inc., where he received numerous certificates.
Rev. Brady continued his biblical studies under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Dr. Napoleon Wordlaw and his mentor and confidant, the late Rev. Dr LC. Curry. He accepted his calling into the ministry and preached his first sermon on November 13, 1994, "When was God at His Best."
He earned and received a Masters Degree in Biblical Studies in 2003, a Doctoral Degree in Divinity in 2005, and a Doctoral Degree in Biblical Studies, all from the Dr. J.L White Bible College in Chicago, IL.
Upon relocating to Mississippi, Rev. Brady joined Society Ridge M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert Patton. He loved assisting in teaching Sunday School lessons to the men in the class. He also enrolled in classes offered at the Mount Center Congress of Christian Education.
On May 23, 2018, Rev. Brady joined Greater Pearlie Grove M.B. Church, under the leadership of Pastor Stephen J. Mason, where his journey to learn continued. After receiving the right hand of fellowship, he was given the honor of teaching the new members class until his health began to fail.
At the time of his passing Rev. Brady was under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Bridges.
